Viking’s installation guide for its 5 Series built-in gas rangetops puts the bottom of a standard hood 30 to 36 inches above the countertop, and rules out air-curtain hoods that blow air downward onto the cooking surface. A hood hung above that band, or one that pushes air down, changes how the flames behave. We look at both appliances before deciding which one owns the fault.
Those rangetops carry a pressure regulator built into the unit at the factory, and the guide says never to bypass it. The gas-path sketch on this page shows where it sits between the shut-off valve and the burners.
